THE NEW MEXICO TRADE AND HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER OF MEXICO CITY

The New Mexico Trade and Higher Education Center NMTHEC of Mexico City aims to build strategic partnerships for businesses looking to expand into Mexico and educational opportunities for students in both New Mexico and Mexico. The New Mexico Trade Alliance is proud to oversee the international business programs for the New Mexico Trade and Higher Education Center NMTHEC on behalf of the City of Albuquerque.

THE OFFICE

​

The NMTHEC was formed as a MOU between the City of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico to deepen bilateral ties between the State of New Mexico and Mexico in key areas such as trade and education. The NMTHEC of Mexico City is staffed by experts in the fields of international business development and higher education and is strategically located in Mexico City; the country’s financial, economic, and political capital. The Center was inaugurated in 2014 by then City of Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry, University of New Mexico President Robert G. Frank, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Anthony Wayne, Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs José Meade, and Mexico City Economic Development Secretary Salomón Chertorivski.

TRADE​

In partnership with the NMTHEC, the NMTA is eager to offer New Mexico companies direct trade assistance for the Mexican market. The NMTHEC is staffed by Director Margo Galvan, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of international trade development experience at the US state and federal government levels.

 

When you connect with the Mexico Office, you will be invited to schedule a one-on-one free consultation to discuss your business aspirations in Mexico. The Mexico Office will evaluate the feasibility of your goals and objectives, and work with you to draft a project plan. All projects are unique and depending on your needs, the Mexico Office can support you with:

 

  • business lead generation in Mexico for New Mexico companies

  • preliminary due diligence research

  • itinerary and translation assistance when New Mexico companies visit Mexico

HIGHER EDUCATION​

​

The NMTHEC focuses attention on building partnerships between the University of New Mexico (UNM) and Mexican higher education institutions including recruiting Mexican undergraduate and graduate students to the UNM’s degree programs and developing valuable study abroad experiences for UNM students in Mexico. The Center leverages the long and rich history that UNM has had in working collaboratively with Mexican institutions as it helps create a reinvigorated partnership between two countries.
